A/PUBLIC
A group show of fifteen Philadelphia- and New York-based queer Asian artists working in painting, photography, print media, and video. We collected ephemera offered by the artists, housed in the Kelly Writers House vestibule through the run of show, to function as a library for any visitor. The opening gathered local queer Asian writers and artists, who shared their artistic practices and respective cultural communities, in an intimate formation most named as their first. We moved downstairs to attend public performances by Joan Oh, Oki Sogumi, Eva Wǒ, and Maya Yu Zhang, and to release A/Public issue #1, a risographed zine of eight writers. We started an email chain. We continue to locate our changing bodies and identities in changing publics. We’ve since come together in varied permutations to support each other’s work. FORTUNE is one iteration of this collective effort.
